Blind Date

“How about this dress?” A blonde with curly stands of hair hanging down her face that resembled the look of curly fries said with her sweet and innocent crooked smile, while holding up a baby blue sparkled dress that was designed to come off the shoulders.
“Elle we aren’t shopping for prom! It’s my wedding remember! This dress isn’t fancy enough for a bridesmaid.” Christy gleamed showing off her white straight teeth and rotated her white gold diamond ring to make sure it still rested on her left hand.
“And how far off is this wedding? Come on Kris have some fun with me! Try some dresses on! We can act like school girls and goof off. You know we would have fun!”
After Elle’s persuasion Christy finally agreed. But after two hours they found themselves exhausted and hungry. They left the bridal store and headed for the food court and went to the nearest restaurant. Once they had sat down Elle quickly filled in the silence.
“Christy, I’m so jealous of you and Caleb. You two make the cutest couple and even here at the mall all the cute guys are checking you out. I haven’t had a boyfriend much less a date in over six months. Now that Caleb has finally asked you to marry him, I’m dying to have what you have!” she said looking into her best friends bright baby blue eyes. “You have it all going for you, “ Elle continued, “ your perfect blue eyes, perfect smile, beautiful curly brown locks and Caleb is the sweetest guy I have ever met with great looks! What more could you ask for Kris!”

Christy just simply smiled and said, “Elle, you are a very beautiful person and you know that I’ve been jealous of you since middle school when you got your first kiss from Jimmy Holdum, the cutest guy in seventh grade. I didn’t get mine until high school. I’m sorry you haven’t found a good guy but you must remember it is on God’s time. Be patient and it will happen. However, if you want, I can see if Caleb has any friends that you would be interested in. But I know you hate blind dates.”
“Yes I do, but I’m desperate!” Elle said smiling nervously.
After the girls finished eating they said their goodbyes and went to their cars with Christy promising to call later that night. Once Elle got home she began watching “The Notebook”, a wonderful love story about two teens that lose touch and meet again after they get older, and waited for Christy to call. About an hour later her phone rang. Elle jumped up to get the phone and answered it quickly. “Hello?” she said between sniffles trying to quit crying. “No I’m fine, just was watching “The Notebook”.... Good news?... a date.... Thomas Wheaten.... Friday... Okay.. Yes... 5'10.. Brown hair.. Brown eyes... sounds cute. Can’t wait. I own you.” Elle said as she hung up the phone and finished watching the end her movie.

4 days later..

Elle looked at the clock, “Oh my it’s seven and I’m supposed to meet him at eight! What in the world am I going to wear tonight?” Elle said to herself. She changed outfits yet again, this time she picked out a pair of her favorite faded blue jeans, a pink shirt that formed a V on her neck, her favorite diamond heart necklace she receded from her grandmother and her black boots that rested just below her calf (which made her stand about 5'6.) “I hope that he is tall, “ Elle said as she looked in the mirror with a smile. She ran into the bathroom and began brushing out her tangled web of thick blonde hair and turned her large curling iron on. When she had finished brushing her hair, she began putting on her black eyeliner, pink eye shadow, (to go with her shirt and to give a slight clash to her blue eyes) and her chocolate colored lip-gloss that gave her lips a shiny brown look. She glanced at the clock again and it read 7:35 as she began to spiral curl her hair. “Thankfully the restaurant isn’t too far away.” Elle breathed a sigh of relief as she pulled back her uneven bangs with a clip and curled the rest of her hair quickly. She put on her “love spell” body spray, grabbed her purse and keys and ran out the door of her one bedroom apartment. She ran down the four flights of stairs and looked at her watch, 7:45 the clock read. Elle jumped in her black Nissan Altima and raced off to “Rossitos” which was a fancy restaurant around the corner from her apartment. When she arrived it was 7:55 and she hurried inside to the hostess.
“Yes hi, I am here for a blind date, I was wondering if Thomas Wheaten had arrived yet?: Elle said nervously with her palm sweating and her stomach turning.
“No, I’m afraid he hasn’t Miss. May I seat you and let him know you are here when he arrives?” the hostess said with a smile after she checked her list of names.
“Yes please do, but put me close to the door, if you can.” Elle said smiling back.

8:15 the clock red and Elle began to believe she had been stood up. She had already been through a whole diet coke and ate four bread sticks. She looked up just in time to see a tall slender man, his hair dark and styled just right and had beautiful blue eyes that could be seen a mile away. “Wow, that has to be him, “ Elle thought, “Christy was right, he is cute!” A moment later he announced his name to the hostess. “Ken Dean is my name and I am looking for Sarah Moeken, has she arrived yet?” Elle sunk in her chair and felt disappointment. “Why does Sarah have to be the lucky one with the cute date while I am sitting here alone on a Friday night! Being stood up at that!”
At 8:30 the door opened again and a man come stumbling in with thick black glasses that were not only crooked on his face but was also taped back together with scotch tape. The color of his eyes were not clear but could possibly be a light brown or blue or green. His dark brown hair looked as if he just crawled out of bed with it standing up everywhere. He wore a button up plaid dress shirt with orange suspenders around his shoulders supporting his tan dress pants. “Surely that isn’t him! He has on a green and orange shirt!” Elle screamed to herself. Sure enough this man stumbled his way up the stairs to where Elle was sitting, sinking in her chair with each step he took.
“Hi... uh my name is uh Thomas. You must.. Be... Elle. You are even more be.. Beau.. Beaut.. Beautiful than Caleb had described you.” Thomas said with a stutter and almost fell out of his chair as he sat down. Elle just about cried and had thoughts of running out on him but that he is Caleb’s friend and she is already here so she can’t leave. She just smiled lightly at him and said. “Yes, my name is Elle and you are hmm... quite different from how Christy described you.”
“Uh... thanks.. I uhh.. Think,” Tomas said nervously. “I am so sorry I’m extremely nervous, I have never been out with a girl as pretty as you are,” he said with a smile. Then Elle got an idea they set me up! They are sitting back and laughing at me right now because he isn’t my type! Christy said he was cute. They know I have this fear of blind dates! Elle though she had said in her head but when she looked up and saw a shocked look on Thomas’ face. “OH my God!” I am so sorry Thomas.” Elle said clinching her fingers tightly.
“Sorry for what?” Thomas asked with a smile that showed his yellow stained crooked teeth.

“That I have to use the restroom, excuse me.” Elle rushed off to the bathroom. About five minutes later Elle returned to find Tomas sitting at the table playing war with the salt and pepper shakers.
“Good Lord! I feel as if I am on a date with an impatient five year old, who can’t sit still for one moment!” Elle sighed and sat back in her black and red cushioned chair attempting to smile, but it only looked like she was having a painful toothache instead. “So Thomas, tell me a little about yourself. I don’t know anything other than your age. Enlighten me.” she said crossing her hands and folding her fingers trying to give him a chance.
“Well, my name is Thomas Theodore Wheaten, I am 25 years old, very single and I’m not sure why. I just came seem to impress the girls. I work for a computer place that puts together computers and solves problems for people. Also on my free time I take computers apart and build Lego cars, which was a habit from childhood, like when girls play with Barbie. I do like to play with my niece whom is only six months and we play pick-a-boo most of the time because she doesn’t understand our language quite yet but she still tries to communicate with us. I have two older brothers, 28 and 32 also a younger sister, 22. They are all married but only my little sister has children. I want a two kids one day and a beautiful loving committed wife, but I don’t see that happening anytime soon.” Thomas said.
At that moment he reached to put the white napkin in his shirt but grabbed the tablecloth instead and their red wine glasses and salads went everywhere along with the flower in the vase of water. Elle sunk in her seat and turned the shade of the rose that was now lying on the floor next to the puddle of water and broken glass. “This has to be the worst date in history! I can’t believe I ever agreed to this!” she said to herself as she sunk farther into her chair.

A waiter in a fancy black tuxedo rushed over to help Thomas in his disaster. But instead Thomas only pulled the waiter down with him so both the waiter and Thomas sat on the floor looking like fools. Thomas finally got up and put his hand out to help the waiter be he denied Thomas’ help. So Thomas went to sit down and missed the chair and landed back on his back. “Ow!!” Thomas wined and slowly climbed back up holding onto the table and the table tipped over him. Tomas turned bright red and finally got back into his seat. “Elle I am so sorry. I know this date hasn’t been the greatest, I’m a little bit clumsy but you are just.. So beautiful.. I’m just a uh tad but nervous.”
Elle just simply smiled to act like she was totally okay and that she was going to let is lip of her shoulder. Then she motioned for the waiter to come quickly so she could order her food.
“Chicken parmaguan, two bread sticks and a diet coke, please. And make it quick. Thank you.” Elle ordered her meal but couldn’t wait for this horrid date to be over. She sat back and let the date continue on. She found herself wondering, “Could I ever fins this man attractive? He seems like a really nice guy, but he isn’t my type. He is dorky. I couldn’t date him or been seen with him in public. Or am I just being picky? Okay Elle just give him a chance!” Elle told herself as if she were talking to one of her best friends trying to talk her into something.
They receded their food and Elle ate quickly but he threw his food in his mouth quickly and was done with his before she was even done. Once she had finished she called the waiter over, “Check, Check! WAITER!” Thomas gave the man his credit car but within a few moments the waiter returned with a solemn look on his face. “Sir, your credit card has been denied.” Thomas turned beat red and sunk into his seat.
“That can’t be right!” He exclaimed. But Elle just simply handed the waiter her credit car and told him she would pay for the bill. “Thanks Elle” Thomas said, “How could I ever pay you back?”

“Please do not worry about it.” Elle replied quickly and with a sigh of relief that the date was over. When she finally got her credit card back she told him goodbye and rushed out the door, got in her car and went home, alone.

7 years later...

“5 years ago we married. We’ve had our ups and downs but I love you very much. Take this white rose and go to the first place we kissed.” Elle read as she put the note back down on her marble kitchen counter. Tom had left early that morning with Kimberlynn, which was nine months old and Kindle, who was 4 years old before Elle had woke up from her deep sleep. Kimberlynn took after Elle with her blonde hair and dark blue eyes but Kindle looked just like her dad, she had his nose, his dark brown hair and his dark brown eyes. She was also taller than other 4 year olds her age.
“Just what is he up to?” Elle thought to herself. “Well I guess I ought to get ready so I can start my hunt.”

About 20 minutes later Elle jumped into her 2005 yellow mustang and raced off to her old apartment complex. She walked up to the front steps and walked up to the door of her old apartment. A note was attached to the door. “To my beautiful wife,” read the note. Above the note was another white rose. She finished reading, “Don’t worry both girls are at Kristy and Caleb’s but they don’t know what I’m up to. Relax and go to your favorite spa. Something awaits you,” the second note read. She went back to her car and five minutes later found herself at the local spa. When she walked in a lady with long black hair handed her a note along with another white rose. The note read, “Today is all about you. I want you to relax and have fun. I love you and can’t wait to see you! After your pampered you will get a new note.” Elle smiled and waited her turn. They called her back and gave her a massage, makeover, and did her nails both finger and toes. When the lady with long black hair and brown eyes had finished she received another note. “I hope you enjoyed being pampered, now go to the mall and do some shopping. Go to your favorite store and there will be another note waiting for you. I love you and enjoy.”
“He has me running all over town! What in the world is he up to?” Elle thought as she drove to her next destination.
She walked quickly to the entrance of the mall where she went directly to Famous Barr, her favorite store. When she walks in a lady with short brown hair walked up to her and gave her a note and another white rose. The note read, “Our blind date was a disaster and it was a year before we met up again. Go there and wait for the next note. Buy a nice outfit for tonight. I love you. By the way, don’t spend more than an hour!”
“Hmm.. I guess that means I go to Caleb and Christy’s house after shopping. I’m really wondering what he’s up to. I can’t believe he remembers all that he does!” Elle thought to herself as she began looking for a new outfit. She found a pink shirt that came off her shoulders with black and pink stripped pants and pink open toed shoes. It only took a half an hour to find the perfect outfit. Once she did she remember that she had not gotten Tom anything yet. So she rushed out of the mall and went to Best Buy. She ran in and bought him the best camera that they had, because in his free time he liked taking pictures of her and his daughters. When she had finished she rushed to Caleb and Christy's. When she arrived Kindle and Kimberlynn were outside playing with Sterling and Stephen. Of course Kimberlynn and Stephen were in their bouncy seats blabbering to one another. Stephen was just under a year old and had beautiful light brown eyes and red hair while Sterling was six with hazel eyes and brown hair. When Kindle saw Elle pull up she ran up to the car door.
“Mommy! Mommy!” she said giving her mom a hug.

“Hi sweetie, are you having fun with Sterling? You are both close in age.
“No mommy! I’m four and a half and Sterling is six.” Kindle said in her I’m smarter than you attitude.
“Hey Caleb! Is Kris inside?” Elle said pick up here nine month old.
“Yes, she is and there’s a note inside. What is Tom up to anyway?” the 5'10 curly brown haired tan blue-eyed medium build man said humorously.
“I don’t know Caleb. I was going to ask you that same question.” Elle said as she walked inside. “Christy! Where are you?”
“Hey Elle, Wow you look amazing. What have you been doing all day? Tom is up to something big. He is having us keep the girls tonight and left this note and rose for you. I’m so jealous!” Christy said smiling showing off her white teeth. Elle took the note from Christy and sat on the couch.
“Elle think back to the second time we met. I had changed quite a bit and you were still as beautiful as I had remembered. I didn’t think I’d ever have another chance with you after our blind date. But when you walked over to me at Caleb and Christy’s party you took my breath away. I had some fashion advice before we met again and Caleb helped me out. I love you more and more each day. We have had our fights but every couple does. You are the best wife and mother anyone could ask for. Now go back to our home and do what you wish. There will be a note with more directions. Leave Caleb and Christy’s by five. Have fun!”

After Elle had explained to Christy what she had done today they contemplated just what he could be up to. She took Kimberlynn back outside and told her goodbyes. She drove a few blocks down the street to their two-story brick home with flowers arranged around the house and light brown shutters. She walked in through the front glass door and went upstairs to their bedroom. On the bed lay a note and one white rose. It read, “baby, you have till 6 before you need to do anything more. At 6:30 be ready, a limo will be there to pick you up. Your destination? You must wait to find out. One hint; bring something for your arms. It may get chilly.”
She rested for half an hour and then put her new outfit on and finished getting ready. The limo arrived at exactly 6:30. When she climbed in there was another white rose, a note and blindfold. The note read, “Put the blindfold on and await your next destination. Love you Elle.” She did as the note said and felt as if the drive was taking forever. When the limo finally stopped she was told not to remove her blindfold. Soon she heard a familiar voice. “Hey sweetie, you can’t take the blindfold off yet just trust me.” Tom led her to a moonlit lake with soft music playing from a battery operated stereo and a romantic picnic for two. He removed her blindfold and looked into her eyes.
Elle gasped, “Tom! This is where you asked me to marry you! I love this spot! Its so beautiful!” she said as she flung her arms around him. They ate slowly and talked about what the past five years had held. Once they had finished eating they took a boat down the calm moonlit lake locked into each other’s arms. After they had took a long float down the lake the walked back to the limo hand and hand and looked on to the next years of their life together.
