“Sunday, the day of all days” or at least this one was. My scuba team was due for our End of the Year field trip to Catalina Island. Mom had packed me all up the night before including my neon yellow scuba mask we bought yesterday at “Splash’s Warehouse.”
When I looked at the little black clock next to my bed I realized it was only 7:30am. I still had two and half-hours until it were time for all of us to meet at school. I go to the highly prestige ‘Jaspin Elementary’, at least that is how the adults refer to it. With all this time to waste I figured I better use it productively. I pulled out my little sunshine notebook with my three best friend's phone numbers scribbled in little sun shaped spaces. I figured why not make sure there awake and anticipating this as much as me; maybe we could even talk our parent into dropping us off early. That way when all the other kids arrived we would already be sitting by our stuff free from embarrassing good-byes.
Pypper was the first sun number I called, her mom said she was still sleeping and to call back in a couple hours. Didn’t these people realize that unlike there interesting unmentionable daily schedules; ours are consistent and way boring. Disappointed as I was I hadn’t yet given up so I call my next sun number which was Lindsay’s, “ she’s eating her breakfast right now, and it’s too early to call,” her mom scolded in her snappy little way. Panic was getting higher on my list if Sally’s mom was disapproving I am stuck with two and a half-hours all to myself.
When I dialed Sally’s number and a miracle happened no mom’s just good old Sal sounding just as awake as me answered, “ thank you for calling the Maple residents Sally Maple speaking,” –which her mom had her practice-.
“Sal, its me Kendle” I exclaimed.
“Kendle, hi”
“ Hey Sal I had an idea,”
“Uh-huh”
“Let’s ask our mom’s if we can hang out together and then get dropped off early at the meeting area so we can be the first ones there.”
“Kendle go look outside!”
Ok granted this isn’t anything close to the response I expected but Sal always had interesting reasons for what she did. I then set the phone down on the table next to me and headed for the nearest window. I took one look out the window at the most horrible Sunday I’ve ever seen. The sky was black and rain was drizzling, “CANCELED” was the next word that came into mind. Well this obviously was interesting but not the kind I was looking for. When I got back on the phone all I could think to say was “Oh”.
Then good old Sal said, “ I suggest we use this sad event as leverage for a pizza/movie sleep over tonight” and once again I became excited and went about figuring out how to waste time until 5:00pm tonight came.

"Never have I been so insulted by a work of fiction. (At least I pray it's fiction) .This is truely the producted of a warped and twisted mind. I am not offended by the quality of the work , albiet unmitigated crap with nothing to merit or justify it. It is not your fault that you'r not a naturaly talanted writer but it is your duty to realise and accept this, rather than resorting to sensationalist shock tatics. Peadifillia is a highly sensative issuse which has affected many and should be traeted with sensitivity. I was deeply offendedby the promoting of such a cruel act and the inference that "The kiddies like it realy". I hope that others are equaly upset by this twisted work . I have read this screenplay and hope that because I have done this others will not have to. Take it from me that unless you are sexualy frustarated or a pervert/peadifile, this screenplay will sicken you. Stay away. Boycott this depravity!" -- Barry Noman.
