More Than Just A Teacher

Teachers are the backbone of the education system. They work hard to educate students, give them a foundation for their future, and prepare them for the world. However, the job of a teacher is much more than that. They are not only teachers in the subjects they teach, but they are also counselors, confidants, coaches, and mentors.
They guide students in navigating life's many challenges and finding their way in life. In light of everything teachers do for students, it's difficult to imagine the education system functioning without them. However, there are numerous issues associated with the position of teacher: stress levels skyrocket, teachers feel unsupported, and the average salary of an entry-level position is PHP 25, 439. That is under the Salary Standardization Law of 2019, which went into effect on January 1, 2022, based on Senate Bill No. 1219 and House Bill No. 5712, signed into law on January 8, 2020, by former President Rodrigo Duterte. Teachers' meager salaries cannot meet their basic needs as commodity prices rise. Much more is needed to support their children's educational needs.
Teachers travel abroad to work in Japan and the United States, where they can earn higher salaries and have more opportunities for advancement, in order to make ends meet. Teachers in the country have to work longer hours, bring more paperwork home, and may even have their own children while teaching. These working conditions may cause teachers to become dissatisfied and less dedicated, leading to an exodus to America or a transition into less stressful employment.
This can often lead to a sense of frustration and apprehension for teachers who are unable to make their desired impact within this department. They often find themselves staying in roles where they are not supported or required to do the work they originally set out to do. As a result, many teachers find themselves in a position where they feel damaged by their experiences and are unable to commit to the field because of it.
The role of a teacher is not one that is only defined by the work they do in their classrooms. It is also one that is shaped by the work they do behind the scenes to create a safe environment conducive to both learning and growth. With this in mind, it becomes difficult for some teachers to distinguish between their personal and professional lives, which can lead to some questionable decisions.
The government has to do something to boost teachers' morale and the community must appreciate their contribution to shaping younger generations' lives. It is not easy to be a teacher in this country. They are subjected to much pressure from various quarters, including parents and students. The job of a teacher also requires lots of patience because they have to deal with many problems at home as well as in school.
It is true that some teachers are not able to cope with the pressure and frustration they experience in the classroom. But there are other teachers who have been able to overcome these challenges through dedication and hard work.
In addition, it is also important for parents not only to respect but also appreciate their children's teachers. If parents appreciate their child's teacher, they will encourage them to learn more and work harder in school so that they can achieve their goals. This way, parents will also help their children develop good study habits that will help them succeed later in life.
This month is teacher appreciation month. I am grateful to the unsung heroes who tirelessly do their part not only to educate learners but also to inspire them to be better citizens.
Thank you very much for the service that you do. I know how hard it is to be a teacher because I’ve been there once in your shoes, and I appreciate your efforts. I hope that you will keep up with the job you are doing. Keep on searching for the truth and love. I am proud of you because of the effect you have had on every child's life. Thank you for being a great teacher!
