I want to know what you ache for, how long it will continue and when it will consume you. I
wonder if you would dare to dream of meeting your heart’s desire, or even if you know what
that would be and where you would find it. Have you ever touched the centre of your sorrows, been
opened by life’s betrayals or become shrivelled and withdrawn from the fear of further pain. I
want to know if you can hold your own pain without moving to hide, fix it or fade into the aftermath
. I don’t care about what planets are squaring your moon, but rather your ability for joy, your
willingness to dance naked with the wilderness. Would you let the ecstasy tingle to the tips of
your fingers and toes without causing you to be careful, to be realistic, to remember the
limitations of being human. I want to know if you can disappoint another and be true to yourself,
if you can bear the accusation of betrayal and hold your soul with clean hands. I want to know
what beauty you can see when there’s none in sight, when eternal winter has trapped your mind and
froze your heart. Is it possible for your faith to create trust that you might not feel, that
you might not believe in, that you might never have. I want to know what you run from, who you
run to and if they’ll hold you in the early hours of the morning when your tears no longer fall
and your fears no longer burn. Can you live with your failure and still stand on the edge of
the lake to shout to the silver of the moon as you did when you felt success? Are you able to
sing with the conviction of a heart that has never been torn, a soul that has never been
shattered and a mind that has never spun out of control, even though these are part of your life.
Will you take control of your future or let it be the victim of your past that has become your
present. I want to know if you’ll play like a child on a ray of sunshine or spin around
endlessly in the pouring rain as if nothing could touch you, nothing could harm you, and as if you
would do it forever. I want to know what smile will bring that sparkle to your eyes, and which
one will make your eyes look sad. I want to know what makes you human, what makes you laugh, what
makes you sing, what allows you to carry on day after day and still remain as human as the day
you were born. I want to see your consciousness, the life that hides behind the emotions you might
or might not feel. I want to see your spirit that makes you uniquely individual, that makes
you the one who I’m writing this to, that makes you the one that I wish I knew.

"this is so meaningful, touching and very affectionate, excellent peom. get rid of the last line." -- lori-ann.
"Great stuff Adam, though I wouldn't consider it poetry. But who cares. You've dug deeply and with talented subtlety in the garden of your soul and come up with flowers. Your words are beautifully bothersome. And of course, I'm jealous. More, Adam. More. " -- david namerow, downingtown, chester, pa.
"Adam, I think that this is one of the most beautiful pieces that you have written, is this noe your life's mantra?" -- Kim.
