Global Warming
Global warming also called climate change is causing major worldwide problems. The atmosphere is warming due to the emission greenhouse gases, some naturally occurring but most man made. If we don't stop or slow the warming trend there will be major changes to life on earth resulting in the death of species on earth including humans.
Global warming is not only “warming” but in many areas will result in cooling. Weather patterns will be disrupted and less predictable.Scientists believe that in 2050 the north pole will have a glacier but be a seasonal winter. This means that the ice and snow will melt in the summer then return in the winter. The impact this will have on the oceans tides and current is difficult to predict, but it is know that it will have major impacts on the entire world. In places like the Amazon and other tropical forests temperatures may be cooler, there for killing off the forest. Similar to the loss of glaciers the loss of these major forest systems will impact climate and make the climate change faster.
The melting of the polar ice caps will destroy the habitat for the animals that live there. As an example polar bears live, hunt, and raise their young on the ice. As the ice continues to melt polar bears and other species like them will become extinct in the wild. In other parts of the world trestle animals and aquatic animals are moving north or higher in their ecosystems to adapt to warming temperatures. The smallest change in temperature can effect what food and water is available. There are trends off animals coming out of hibernation earlier and having babes earlier.
Insects and invertebrates are affected by climate change in many different ways. Insects like the Bark Beadle which is destroying forests is feeding off the climate change. While insects that are critical to pollinating crops such as bees and moths are dying because of habitat loss. The loss of pollinators will result in less food being grown and a higher cost for food. This will result in more hunger and poverty around the world.
The effects of climate change will be financial as well as environmental. The changes in weather patterns are more severe weather because of the change in climate. These weather patterns such as rain, snowfall, higher waves, and floods will occur more frequently. This weather creates more damage to infrastructure like power line, sewer lines, dams, and roads. The more damage weather creates, then the higher the cost of tax payers. It is estimated that damage from climate change will cause up to 20% increase in the cost to rebuild infrastructure.
Global warming is creating major worldwide problems. These problems may not affect our generation but the next generation will be hit hard. Flooding, animals and insects dying, and plants dying. We need to help now so that later these problems wont be so bad.
