Book Of Shadows
Diary Of A Witch

Written below are the accounts and experiences of a real, live Witch, in her own words, in her own hand, by her own accord.
I suppose I should start by introducing myself. My name is Lady Sashi, as those of you who have happened to have read my other entries would be privileged to already know. This is not my real name, of course, but what is known as Witch, Craft, or Magical name. The reasons and origins for each name is a deeply personal choice, but has become popular among those who practise the Craft, known to its practitioners, as Wicca. In the days of the Persecutions, or Burning Times, a Witch would create such a name to conceal her identity, both from those they worked with, and from unperceived ears.
Nowadays, these names are employed as a mark of pride, a title by which our deities (God and Goddess) may know us. It also serves as a form of symbolic baptism, as well as lends a bit of awe and mystery to the atmosphere.
How I got this name is a long and boring story, and of little consequence to this one. This tale is not one full of fanciful tales, and mystical adventures; I’ll save that for another day. No, this is merely about the true voyage of one soul who died in one life, only to be reborn into another.
I could start at the beginning, and recount each instance, but that would be pointless and boring. All you need to know is that ever since I was very young, I had always been fascinated with the occult (do not be misled, this is not an “evil” word, it merely means things born of a mystical nature). Always the eager Witch in the school play, Halloween night, or childhood game, I immersed myself heavily into the imaginary world of childhood.
One particularly eventful point, was a sleepover, in which we held a mock-séance before bed, and later did rune-readings, followed by dream interpretation and levitation in the morning (you that game “light as a feather, stiff as a board” which was made popular by the 1996 cult classic The Craft). I’d always wanted to learn magic, and as I entered into my second year of high school, I got my chance; more or less.
A friend professed to know magic and agreed to teach me, after much asking on my part. This, however, never came to pass, and is what, we in the Craft call “fluffy”. This is a fun little term we use to mean someone who thinks they know everything, but really knows nothing. The type who uses movie-style tales to make you think they’re “all-powerful”.
After the initial disappointment, a friend who I’d known for quite some time took me aside and began to teach me about a religion called Wicca. It seemed to fit my personality perfectly, and I began to read and absorb all I could on the subject. It took me long time before I considered myself privileged to called a Witch, but eventually I took the name, and it’s stuck ever since.
It’s rather funny, when thinking back to one Halloween, a classmate came up to me in my traditional Witch’s outfit (what can I say, I love the classics), and asked me if I was a Witch. Since when does personal costume choice have any baring on one’s life, I have yet to determine, but that’s a discussion for another time. I said “no”. Half a year later I was Lady Sashi, and reborn into the religion of Wicca.
I suppose before any of you assume that this friend of mine seduced into his “Culttish” religion, I should say that I had felt nothing for my previous faith, I was just going along with what I’d been told.
The religion of Wicca is quickly becoming the fastest growing religion in Canada and the United States, and is a duality, nature-based religion. For more information, I suggest Scott Cunningham’s Wicca: A Guide For The Solitary Practitioner, and the website www.wicca.com.
It is my hope that this rather brief summary into the life a Witch has been of interest and of education to you, and if further, true exploits are desired, I would willingly provide them education and entertainment pleasure.

Merry Meet, Merry Part, and Merry Meet Again!
Blessed Be!
Lady Sashi
