Chapter 1

She was the cutest girl in school.
I mean she had almost every boy in school hanging at her feet.
Her name was Rochelle; she hung around with the finest girls in sixth grade.
My name is Rochelle and I attend Carter middle school.
My friend Aisha and I have been friends since the first grade.
We both live in Stone Criver apartments and our birthdays are right behind each other.
My clique and I are tight. We always do things together.
All of us go through trials and tribulations like everyone else.
Still, we manage to get through it the best way we know how.
Our favorite quote is " A clique that plays together, stays together."
First off, there is Aisha; she is one of the cutest girls in sixth grade,
she is 12 years old, has long black hair, and pretty eyes.
Then there is Ebony; she is the yellowish of the clique, and also the one with the shortest hair,
she loves to sing; I mean she has a voice of an angel, and she is the youngest of the group.
Finally, there is Rochelle; I am probably the outcast of the group, the middle oldest, long brown
coarse hair, and green eyes.
We had to be to school by 9:00 am, and now it's 8:30 a.m! I have 30 minutes to get dressed!! I still had to get dressed and fix my hair. After I was done
picking out what I was going to wear, I went in front of the mirror to see how the clothes fit on me.
Then I was done putting my hair in a tight ponytail, so that my eyes could stick out to everyone else.
When I walked out of the door, I saw Ebony and Aisha sitting on the stairs waiting on the stairs for me.
I said, " What's up?" Ebony replied sarcastically " Nothing, but the sky!" I said " Whatever, let's go."
I kept thinking in my head " Why would she reply like that?" "I mean I didn't do anything to her, except say
what's up." As we entered Carter middle school, we saw everyone running and jumping around. We saw the football
team chatting away with these girls in front of Ms. Russell's classroom. The bell rang, that told everyone that
it was time to get to class. If you were caught in the hallways without a hall pass, you would get detention. As
I entered my first period class, I saw Ebony waving her hand at me telling me to come and sit next to her. Though I
wanted to sit next to Joseph, I couldn't let down Ebony. After I took my seat next to Ebony, I took a glance over at
Joseph. After he saw that I was looking his way, he shot me a wink. I smiled in return, but got back to my bookwork.
I lost track of time because it was already lunchtime. Maybe was it because I was too busy fantasizing about Joseph.
As I entered the lunchroom, it was filled with laughter, and loudness. I looked around to find Ebony and Aisha, but
before I could spot them Joseph came over and asked me if I wanted to go and sit with him and his friends. I mean I
couldn't refuse, so I said yes. When I approached the table, I heard whistles, and sounds. I took my seat and glanced
over at Joseph. He was too busy talking to his friends. I recognized many of them. They were on the basketball team.
I could not believe that I was sitting with seventh grade boys, especially Joseph. As I saw Ebony and Aisha approaching
the table I stood up to go and talk to them, but before I could Joseph grabbed my hand asking with an impatient voice
" Where are you going?" " Nowhere, but let go of my hand, boy, before you get slapped up in here!" I replied sounding
terrified and shocked. He looked at me as if I was from another planet. I walked away with a twist that told him I was
not playing. As I approached my friends, Ebony asked, " What happened?" " Nothing." I replied sounding mad. As I was
nearing the last period, I saw Joseph coming my way. I tried my best to ignore him, but I couldn't. When he approached me,
he said, " I'm sorry for what happened in the lunchroom today. I hope you will forgive me, because I want you to be my girl
friend." I said, " Okay, but don't scare me like that anymore because I was ready to start fighting in there." He said
" Alright, so you going to be my girlfriend or what?" I replied " I Don't Know" Before I could walk into Ms. Harris's class;
he kissed me on the lips and walked off. I saw Aisha coming my way, with a grin on her face. I asked her what was wrong. She said
" Dena and Alice said they were going to jump me, today after school. I said " What you going to do, because you know I got
your back, whenever and wherever." When we told Ebony, what was going down, she said, " Let's go and fight these schoolgirls.
When all three of us walked outside of school, there was Dena and Alice waiting at the first step for Aisha. When Dena swung at
Aisha I jumped in front of Aisha and said " Before you hit anybody, I want to know why you fighting her, she probably aren’t do
nothing to you except talk to your man, which you shouldn't be mad because you know a boy going to talk to any girl whether they
have a girlfriend or not; so what's the point." Alice stepped in and stated " Yeah, she's right Dena we shouldn't fight this girl
over something this stupid." I thought she was going to slap the silly out of Aisha but she didn't, they both walked away like
civilized school kids. That was one day I sure wasn't about to forget.
