The ambulance sped around the cars trying to get out of the parking lot to reach the hospital. Bryce lifted his head from Zila only for a moment to look back at the school, and someone was watching. Bryce couldn’t make out the face of this person because just then at that second they turned and moved away, but he knew it was a guy. Bryce looked away from the person because they had now vanished up the stairs, and held Zila’s hand.
The ambulance finally arrived at the other end of the parking lot and was now going as fast as the small van could go. They sped down the road in between cars, buses, and trucks that wouldn’t move even though they saw the lights on top of the ambulance. A few moments later they arrived at their final destination, the hospital. They all jumped out of the van and ran into the emergency room. The doctors took one look at her pale face and didn’t know if they could help her. The doctors walked off into the distance for a moment to get some supplies prepared for her examination. They were only gone for a moment, but in that moment Bryce did not move, no, instead he stood there and held her hand, knowing he wouldn’t be letting go no matter what. He took his limp hand and lifted it up to touch her soft, white as snow face. There was no life in her face, and he just gently stroked her cheek once, and then kissed her.
The doctors came back onto the room to examine her and told him to let go but he said he wouldn’t so they had no choice but to work around him. As they were working Bryce looked away form Zila’s face and looked down at his hand because there was a sharp pain coming from it. Part of his hand was frost bitten. He looked back up and saw Zila sitting there with the eyes closed and nothing in motion. Surprisingly Bryce thought they would have been doing CPR or something to revive her but they said they didn’t need to, and that she was fine. Bryce didn’t see how this was possible since he couldn’t see her breathing, but he thought it best to stay out of the way.
Bryce’s other hand that was in Zila’s was also frost bitten. The doctors had finished now and Bryce was next to Zila’s bed still holding her hand. When the doctor came in and stood next to Bryce juts staring at the wall for a moment and then saying, “Bryce, you have to let go of her hand, if you don’t you may not have one for much longer.”
“I don’t care! I will never let go!” Bryce yelled with a small tear in his eye from exhaustion.
“Bryce, let go.” A distant voice said
“Who was that?”
“What are you talking about Bryce?” said the doctor
“That voice I just heard it you didn’t hear it?” Bryce was now looking around but saw nothing but the doctor and….. Zila? But how could it be Zila? She was not moving, but now breathing. Again the voice came but closer this time. “Bryce you have to let go of my hand now, or you will not be able to hold my hand ever again.”
“I will use my other one!” yet again shouted Bryce.
“Look Bryce,” came the distant voice still coming closer. “You need to let go now. Please let go. I don’t want you hurt. Now look, look at my face.”
Bryce hesitated but never the less still looked down at the face of poor dieing Zila. Her deep brown eyes were now open and facing the ceiling. Bryce looked up at the ceiling and saw writing and a picture. The writing said ‘Bryce I will Love you forever, please if you love me let my hand go. I don’t want you to get hurt.’ She then blinked and a new message came up ‘you need to let go. Don’t worry I’m ok. Just let go. It will be alright, please, let go. I am going to wake up. Very soon, let go and’ Again she blinked ‘and just remember, I Love You’
Bryce read this and then Zila’s eyes shut again. Bryce let go of her hand slowly and painfully. He then held it out for the doctor to look at it and the other hand because it was also frost bitten. The doctor said they were going to take him to get it fixed in the emergency room, not here in the recovery room. But Bryce refused and said that he was going to stay with Zila. And he did. If he couldn’t hold her hand or touch to her then he was going to be as close to her as possible. The doctor fixed and bandaged his hands and then added and extra layer in case Bryce wanted to hold Zila’s hand again. He didn’t, at least for the time being. Instead he sat next to her and turned on the T. V, this kept him preoccupied but he would look over every few moments to make sure Zila was ok. But just as he glanced over, one of his many times, he noticed something under her. The doctors must have missed this when they were putting the stupid hospital gown on her. Bryce reached over and picked it up. Then he read and read, and read, and read until he was done and when he was he realized something, it was everything that had just happened down to every last detail! His hands, her being in this hospital even the room she was in. She knew! She knew this whole time what was going to happen and never said a word about it! One of the very many mysterious powers Bryce knew that she had but didn’t know just what it was. Now that he knew, when she woke up. If she woke up he would have to confront her of this. He would just have to wait, and he did.
