Rockfort Island - Chapter Eight C M S Sharpe
Chapter 8
She giggled softly, “Ready to go?”
“Rushing, huh?”
“Well, we do have a long day ahead of us.”
“I know.”
“And like you said last night, we can’t sit here,
waiting for a miracle,” Amberly sighed.
“Right,” and she nodded slowly; remembering she
did, indeed say that the day before. “Well, so
where to then?”
“Well, the place that we met, I noticed that was
where the central gate is. I have the key for it
but I didn’t want to leave you behind. Also, if
you look on the map, there seems to be a station
that holds a mini-submarine. It should be able to
hold both of us in it,” Amberly told her.
She nodded her head, understanding. “So, what are
we going to do with the stuff here?” Chelsea
looked at her, confused. “We just going to leave
it here?”
“Well, with as many times as I made copies of
guns, ammo and sprays. I think we can fill up
that duffel bag over there with that,” she said,
pointing at the dark forest green duffel bag.
“Oh, okay. So what about the clothes you had on
before you changed into your uniform? What are
you going to do with them?”
“I’m sure there is enough room left in that back
pack to shove them inside,” and Amberly picked up
her clothes, giving it to her because Chelsea had
her hand out for them.
She packed it away inside the backpack along with
her clothes and while she was doing that; Amberly
packed up the duffel bag with the guns, sprays
and ammo. When she was done, she hung the thick
shoulder strap over her shoulder and joined
Chelsea’s side, who was busy trying to turn the
metal detector off. She had pulled the table out
of it and off to the side, against the wall.
“We can’t go through unless we turn this stupid
thing off,” She said, frustrated.
“Why not,” and before Chelsea could stop her.
Amberly walked through the metal detector with
guns and all. A high shrieking alarm went off,
releasing a metal gate that was inside a slit in
the ceiling. It sprung down and she rolled under
it just in time, before it could squish her like
road kill.
“ . . . That’s why,” Chelsea said, shaking her
head at her as she pushed the button to
deactivate the alarm.
“Oh,” she murmured quietly, “Sorry.” The gate
went back into the ceiling.
“Cover your ears, if you like. I’m not taking any
chances with that gate, not quite fast like you
are so I’m going to slide my stuff on over to you.
So that will set the alarm off once again. I will
deactivate it again and then come join you. Do
you understand?” She asked, making sure of
herself that she didn’t confuse her at any point.
Amberly nodded, “Yep, I gotcha.”
“Good, now also can you take those infected
cannibals by the windows while you’re at it,
please? They are starting to really annoy me.”
She took the backpack off her shoulders, placed
the gun inside the smaller pouch in the front;
the clips inside a pouch overtop of the pouch she
placed the gun in, and the keys she placed inside
the water bottle pouch. “1, 2, 3,” and she hurled
the backpack across the floor, passing the metal
detector causing the piercing siren to become
alive. “Ugh,” and she tried her best to ignore
the sound as she punched the button lightly,
turning it off.
Not too far off she heard Chelsea’s footsteps
echoing off the bare empty concrete walls of the
hallway. The cannibals had bashed their way in
through the windows when the blaring alarm went
off, so she had taken them out then. Amberly
checked all around to make sure she had taken
them all out, because you can never be too sure
that there wasn't another one that was sneaky
enough to get away. She had forgotten about
Chelsea walking in the hallway, coming after her.
“Oooh. Uggh. Oooh,” the sounds of an infected one.
Amberly spun on her heel, to only find herself
face to face with a smirking Chelsea.
“Ugh! That was not funny,” she whined.
“Heeheehee,” Chelsea giggled. “I just always
wanted to see a zombie moan and state, ‘Oh, I’m
sorry, did I turn you on?’” She giggled some more
to the side at her little joke.
Amberly smiled at her, ‘apparently I’m in love
with a little joker that can poke fun at anything,
no matter the situation.’ She watched her as she
bent down to retrieve the backpack, she got out
two handguns and several keys out; she put the
keys inside her pockets then held the guns in
each hand. Then she slipped the backpack onto her
shoulders, “All set, Amberly ma’am!”
“Alright, Captain let’s go!” Amberly replied.
“Yes ma’am,” and she saluted her playfully. She
reached inside her field jacket under her PT
shirt and stuck one gun in the tools belt that
she had been given. Then, she picked up one of
Amberly’s hands and held it as they continued
down the hall towards the other end where they
would run into another metal detector.
