TITLE (EDIT)
Life In The Flesh
DESCRIPTION
About Zev Biryuk, a young man of 24 caught between the love for his immigrant father and his dreams for himself. Zev's father belongs to a small gang of Jewish Russian immigrants who recently came to the United States and who are plotting to sell to an international Chinese gang a nuclear submarine which is now docked in St. Petersburg. Grisha, the Russian gang leader in New York, tries to control his lieutenants but Grisha's brutality pushes them to revolt and they plot against him. To keep these rebels in line, Grisha threatens his number two man, Zev's father. Then Grisha manipulates Zev, whose mother was Chinese, and forces Zev to negotiate with the Chinese gang. Grisha offers Zev money and power and a more permanent position in the gang. But Zev doesn't want his father's life, he wants to succeed honestly and grab the American dream. And he's also fallen in love with Ester and wants to escape with her from the claustrophobia of Russian gangs and their international wars. This play has seven characters, five men and two women, and is written for a minimal physical production. It sweeps almost like a movie. Parts of the play are shocking and unusual. The arc of the plot and the character motivations of Life In The Flesh are meant to be clear and vivid and catch a general audience.
