Tin Whistle Annacat
The last time holding my hand
you deserve a story never told
if you stay you will hear the sweetest sound
that was ever known
A time in life you commit to make
whatever sacrifice required
you say you need me now
and that's okay
Train me to go to war
with bandages for bullets
I know what we are fighting for
A risk I take without regret
The steel door drops
and we sink to the bottom
struggle to get to the beach
already reddened but not forgotten
I hear the cries for me
and I go to their side
I can hold your hand
but I can't heal your wound
Do you hear the sound of the tin whistle
in the distance somewhere out there
the sweetest sound and I can hear it still
calling for you to come closer
smile on your face as eyes glaze over
I never found from where it came
and heard the sound more times than I preferred
they didn't train me to forget about the pain
close my eyes and it feels the same
Do you hear it now just outside of the window
still the sweetest sound that I will ever know
just hold my hand for the moment to arrive
I have another place to go
Do you hear the sound of the tin whistle
in the distance somewhere out there
the sweetest sound and I can hear it still
calling for you to come closer
smile on your face as eyes glaze over
They couldn't train me to forget the memory
Of Normandy that I still see
however hard I close my eyes
and my son John died under a canopy
in Vietnam serving his country
I never saw the man I knew he would be
He is playing a tin whistle now for me
