In Memory of the lives lost at the World Trade Center, The Pentagon, and the two American Airlines and two United Airlines passengers and crew.
I penned this the very day the WTC and Pentagon and Pennsylvania attacks occurred. I was deeply touched by these tragedies and because I am a visually impaired person, who has often felt that life has at times been 'beyond my control', the events of that day were a mirror reflection on a much larger of scale of life 'beyond our control'. I had an abiding need to put my thoughts on paper. [147 words]

September Birdsong M Kathleen Williams
A “bird of prey”, in friendly façade
Attacked two arms, upward appealing,
And bloodied the eyes and tore the guts
The structured flesh, in agony, peeling.
The day it took the towers down
The birds still “sang” outside my window,
The day it shoved them underground
My heart was filled with fear and sorrow.
I saw the people try to fly
Like “birds”, freed from a firey cage,
They flapped their wings, in search of Angels,
Desparate to flee that concrete rage.
And then, before my cries of anguish
Were able to exit my trembling lips,
Another “bird” attacked, “The Keeper”
Of “Freedom’s Light”, with tears and rips.
I stood and watched this killing spree
In horror and terror, my heartbeat, fast
As people’s lives and people’s faces
Surreally left the “present”, to be “the past”.
I know they hovered some distance from us
Where God’s great arms, in love, a welcome
With the light from his face, pushing through the duststorm
Bidding, these, his children, to “Come Back Home”!
