TITLE (EDIT)
Chewing Stone
DESCRIPTION
It's hard to understand and doesn't seem to make a lot of sense, but to me it does. It's about how shallow people seem to be. [106 words]

Chewing Stone Amanda Rae Mealer
Each soul one step in front
of a weightless, careless body;
They live but are dead
Are dead yet breathe
Breathe but stay breathless
Are breathless and confused
Lost in a forever of never.
Will you call it normal
to be so lifeless?
I call it life-
that each person grips
One dangling thread,
praying not to fall.
They all lie
and in lying find no truth
In truth find no comfort
Comfort with oneself
That they all lack.
Their lips are stained
by meaningless words
that drip like a leaky faucet
out into the hallway.
Can you see their eyes?
So intent on being something else,
So intent on never truly living.
Can you feel their eyes?
So cold and dazed,
So drugged without passion.
Can you taste their eyes?
Like chewing stone.
