March Midlife Moment
Mia Angello

March wrapped me like a wet blanket.
Excitedly seeking warm-fuzziness to bundle in,
I opened the door unseasonably early and
grabbed ahold-- it's dampness chilling.

The weather forcast of mixed-sun is so intriguing
I adopt it as my overall life status,
reasoning only a few rays of brilliance poke through
an otherwise dense outlook.

What better place to contemplate life than "down by the river"?

A barge crawling down the Mississippi is now interrupted
by a freight train's blaring screams.
Their parallel, a little too obvious to my centered but ridiculously
slow progress toward career goals while the rest of my life screams
for change, "Any Change!"
unheard by the barge of progress, who inspires nothing but complete frustration;
Well that, and possibly universal laughter, voiced now by a bird's belting
"Hahahahahahaha" pause "Hahahahahahaha."

And now, a woodpecker in the background echoes the banging in my head to make it all
Stop!

And then, the calmness of the river reigns.
A perfect time to stop thinking and trust that with March comes Spring.
