The Grass Was Green And So Was She Brian Terrell
The Grass Was Green (And So Was She)
The grass was green and so was she
A warm south wind blew through the trees
The sun shined bright in a clear May sky
We spread the blanket on the ground as the river rushed by
Potato salad and fried chicken, biscuits and baked beans
Warm apple pie and a kiss on the cheek
Pretty tan legs and wonder in her eyes
Long brown hair and a face filled with surprise
While she was changing clothes, she wouldn’t let me look
When she put her hand in mine, I noticed that it shook
We waded into the river, she splashed water in my face
I kissed her long and slow and held her in my embrace
We swam forever or I guess so it seemed
We laughed, kissed, and talked about all sorts of things
I guess no one saw except the Lord above
As we lay on the green grass of that bank and made love
I didn’t see her again after that day
I never called, I used to be a jerk that way
But I never cared, never intended for it to last
Only wanted that moment with her on the green grass
Well days and weeks and months they pass
It’s funny how the years slip away so fast
It got a factory job working ten hours a day
Heard she was going to college a hundred miles away
I was walking out of the bank, my loan had been denied
She was walking up, some guy by her side
She acted like she didn’t know me as they walked past
But that night I dreamed of a river and green, green grass
The grass was green and so was she
