DESCRIPTION
This is a poem written in response to a certain mood I was in while deciding one morning that everything was pointless. It's not a very cheerful poem but then, at the time I wasn't in a very cheerful mood! Still, perhaps there may be an element of gallows humour in its cynical style. [114 words]
ABOUT
THE AUTHOR
I am alive and well and living in central England, disguised as a student who periodically undermines their confidence with the aid of a variety of pubishers. Why, may you ask, do I write, if all I receive are rejection letters? I write to exorcise my demons; I write for me. Am I a libertine? No. Am I mad? Perhaps. Am I an eccentric who punishes everyone I know with my creative writing efforts? Definitely. But to paraphrase Oscar Wilde, you can't hold that against my poetry. [February 2000]

As I Walk Kerry L. Schofield
As I walk the faded streets And wish that I was dead, I realise I must survive By not looking ahead.
My mind flits back to just before A shrill, annoying voice. It was not my will to kill Though good to have the choice.
The dreams of reality I had Which linger in my head Will carry on when I am gone - Consume me, when I’m dead.
But that’s okay, it’s fine with me To seem a little strange. Whether crazy or just lazy; Sleep, or deranged.
They make demands I try to fill, My own demands are worse. You may find I’ll lose my mind. But they won’t see, of course.
For I, the lone academician, With no fellow the same, Must live a lie until I die, Not allowed to be insane.
