ABOUT
THE AUTHOR
My name is Kristin, I write to express the things that go on in my head. I am a cheerleader and I play softball, I am the Historian of my high school National Art Honor Society, I am in the beta club, Spanish club and the Drama CLub. [September 2002]
I saw a homeless man the other day,
He was angry and alone.
His eyes were glass, his voice was harsh
And it seemed his heart was stone.
He must have done something awful,
And must deserve what he has now,
But something deep inside me said,
"You should talk to him, and help him out."
But I was running late,
And so I passes him by.
Yet I couldn't forget his face,
And I didn't understand exactly why.
I was about to go to bed,
When I remembered the "man of stone"
I said a simple prayer,
'God make sure he is not alone.'
I woke up the next morning
And something inside me said,
'Go find that poor homeless man.'
I couldn't shake that thought from my mind.
I went and made my lunch,
I made more than enough.
In case i saws that homeless man,
Finding food was probably rough.
I saw him on my way to church
And I decided to stop and talk.
But I felt a little nervous
And I walked a slower walk.
"My name is Kristin" I said,
As he look up at me and glared
"You don't have to tell me your name", I said
So he just there and he starred.
"I have to go to church now,
Perhaps I'll see you there?"
"I don't believe in God" he said
That caught me by surprise, because I was unaware.
I didn't go to church,
I knew God would understand
I wanted to stay and talk
And find out and more about this man.
"How are you doing sir?
If you don't mind,
I am gunna skip church today,
And talk to you, if you don't mind."
I shared my lunch, and we talk about a lot.
I found out so much about his life.
How he used to be a Christian,
About his two daughters and his wife.
He told me how he had been robbed,
of everything he had loved.
How his wife and girls were taken,
And how God didn't seem to be enough.
I told him I must be going,
But that I would be back another day.
And I fit it in my schedule
To see him everyday.
And as the days went by,
I noticed that he smiled more.
He was more friendly, and happy,
And his heart was not so poor.
I walked passed his "home"
And I noticed that he was not there.
Then when I got to church,
I saw him standing there.
He said he was scared to go,
Because it had been such a long time,
I told him, I would go with him,
And it would all be fine.
We walked in together,
Some people kinda starred.
But I sat next to my homeless friend,
Because I didn't care.
After church was over,
He thanked me and said good bye.
He said I had helped him find God again,
And I almost began to cry.
And I simply told him,
That even though he did not see.
God was always there with him,
Even when he did not believe.
I went to see him yesterday,
And found, again, he wasn't there.
In his place was a police man.
I stumbled back and starred.
"Excuse me Sir, have you seen my friend?
This is where he would stay"
He said the man I was looking for,
Was not there that day.
"Where is my friend, Sir?
Is everything all right?"
He had tears in his eyes and said,
"He sleeps with God tonight"
My friend had found his faith again,
And his heart was no longer stone.
My prayer had been answered,
Because he didn't die alone.
He is with his wife,
And his two daughters in the sky.
I went to his grave the other day,
I don't remember if i cried,
But i got to say good bye.
The lesson we can learn from this,
The only one I'm sure about,
IS that even when we don't believe,
God is there to help us out.
