The Out-Path, In Kylan Masters
In the center,
There was a light.
It drew in the darkness,
Extinguishing despair.
Bringing forth the call,
A light breeze came forward.
The wind blew calm,
Along the path.
The path spiraling
Ever outward from the light.
The path traveled away
Spiraling further,
Into the darkness
The light could not touch.
But the light hummed,
It beat and chimed
Growing steadily,
But never getting larger.
I was, one day,
At the start of the path
Next to the light
Bathing in its radiance.
From here, I began
A journey outward
Away from the light
Along the spiraled path.
I walked
My feet hitting the path
A pace set by
The flickering light at my back.
And I spiraled away
The light growing dim
The darkness encasing me
In its cold, loving embrace.
I felt her hand
Touch my cheek
Its chilling fingers
To wipe my tears.
And it beckoned
And it mocked
And I accepted
And loved the icy touch.
My journey continued
The path winding further away
The light just a twinkle
Like a star in the sky.
Yet still, I felt it
It continued to hum
And glow in a steady rhythm
My feet, keeping the pace.
The path grew worse
Rocks marked the surface
My feet tripping
My knees digging into the soil.
And I continued,
My legs were scratched
My hands were bloodied
My heart losing a beat.
But I knew,
That the path would not,
Could never end
Until I stopped.
The light in the center,
The mainstay of this path
Was all but gone
From behind.
I turned to see
If the light was there
But from my back it was gone
So I turned to my path.
And there, not behind
But rather in front
Was the center of the path,
The light in the middle.
It had not been behind,
It had been in front
The entire time I was traveling,
I was getting closer!
So I continued,
My path, my journey.
The further into the darkness,
Was that much closer to the light.
