The Voice
R Bennett Okerstrom

I am the voice that haunts your dreams.
That calls your name like a whisper in the wind.
I am the shape you visualize
Which takes whatever form I crave.
I am the scarlet thoughts that run through your mind.
The vivid letch that will not fade.
I am the answer to the tedium
That consumes you like the wretched nevus branded on your skin.
I am the prince that rules the shadows.
There is nowhere left for you to hide.
I am the one you deeply covet.
But cannot seem to recognize.
I am your fear. Your want. Your need.
I am your thirst. Your lust. Your meed.
I am all that you wish to be.
I am that which you cannot fathom.
A pity you will never see.
The one that dwells throughout the darkness.
The only one who could set you free.
