Edge Of Eternity Judith Goff
Wind whips the shore, the sea glows phosphorescent
As wave after wave slides over the sand
A crescent moon hangs above
Alone but not, myriad ghosts are with me
As I tread through the tidal pools at the edge
Of eternity, water ebbing, flowing …
My spirit, riddled with emptiness, ragged holes where
Once was love and laughter; contentment, life
Only a void … as all fades to black.
My eyes sweep the empty sky where even stars fail
To brighten the heavens and the frail light
From the moon pales by comparison
I search for an answer in vain as the specters, in
Gossamer winding sheets, whirl around me
Seeking answers, not finding.
There are no answers, the darkness beckons, almost
Like a cherished friend at the bend in the road
And I step into the swirling eddies.
The water deepens, I see it now, in the distance
The moonlight capering on the foaming whitecaps
Bidding me come; abide; rest
And the water, a soothing balm, covers me, welcomes
Me into its healing embrace as my hair, with tendrils
Like silken seaweed surrounds me
The water claims me, drawing me down and down and down
And above me I see the midnight sky, the crescent moon
I smile and close my eyes
