The Memory Book
Judith Goff

She sat before the window,
Sunlight sparkling off her hair
In her lap she held a book
She handled with great care

Each page held several pictures
Of a woman and a man
It was clear from their expressions
That a wedding had been planned

She turned the pages slowly
They were fragile from the years
And as she gazed upon them
Her blue eyes filled with tears

She brushed a strand of silver
From her cheek as she turned on
Each page a special keepsake
From a time that had long gone

The sunlight from the window sparked
From a ring upon her hand
A token of his lasting love
A single golden band

In her mind she heard the echo
Of each word of love he spoke
And with each sweet reminder
Her still beating heart re-broke

She closed the book so tenderly
Then closed her eyes as well
And in her mind she saw him
With a smile that she knew still

He reached a hand, she took it
And her heart began to soar
As he lead her to eternity
Together evermore.
