Witch Hunt R Bennett Okerstrom
The mob starts to gather
In the town square.
A witch hunt perhaps?
Everyone's there.
Avenging the dead
Is what's on their mind.
Looking for evil
Unsure what they'll find.
Outside in the shadows
I laugh as I feast.
My victim still squirms
One more for the beast.
The mob will soon find her
All limp without blood.
Clothes tattered and torn
Lying prone in the mud.
They hunt me with torches
To light up the night.
Most scared to fall victim
To my very bite.
I've haunted their streets
For months at no end.
Drinking their lifeblood
They cannot contend.
For now they don garlic
Swords, crosses and stakes.
They know they must kill me
Before the day breaks.
Or I will be sheltered
Away from the light.
A place they won’t find me
Quite out of their sight.
And when darkness falls
The very next eve.
Another town family
Will begin to grieve.
For I shall continue
To feed off their lives.
It may be their daughters
Sons, brothers or wives.
The mob will not find me
Like others before.
I’ll leave for a new town
And soon they’ll abhor.
Their loved ones will die
By mysterious means.
And I will live on
In your life, in your dreams.

"Yes, well so many times the creature is described as a romantic when we all know that deep down he is just a death dealer." -- R. Bennett.
