THE AUTHOR
I'm 19 and I currently a student at a local college. I'm pursuing a degree in biology. Despite my affinity for the sciences, I've had a passion for writer. I've been told I'm extremely talented, I still have yet to find the beauty that other people do in my writing... Give something a read and tell me what you think. [July 2003]

Death Of A Grandmother Ashley Burdett
You speak words that I cannot hear I can feel my mind Contort itself Into shapes That I have never felt before.
I try to understand everything You have uttered in a single breath, With words you have taken a life Precious to both the world and me, Away, away, away.
Speaking in swift, short words You have crumbled my world And ripped the breath from my breast. Yet, I still cannot understand the depth Of which you speak.
‘She is gone, She has passed, The world turns And she is no longer a part of it,’ You breathe to me.
Shaking my head, No, no, no. This has not happened You are mistaken You have been before and you are now.
The world still turns with her She is not gone She has not passed. She still is in the home Where she dwells by the cemetery On the street of countless houses.
I can feel tears dance beneath my lids As everything rushes to me In perfect clarity A gift of God I can understand your utterance.
Maybe you are not as crazy As I assume. Maybe she is gone. Maybe she has passed. Maybe the world turns, But she will always be a part of it.
A legacy that could only have been left Surrounds us. She is in the smiles of her children, She is in the tears of her grandchildren, She will be in the laughs Of those who have yet to come Who will never know of her.
I shed tears for them To never know her Is to never know an angel Sent only by God To be touch our lives for Just a short time.
I weep for those yet to come Who will never know of her love Of her constant presents And her crazy ways.
But most of all, I cry Knowing that I will Never have the chance to speak All of the words that I wished to say.
These words I will Take to my grave My only regrets of this life.
But yet, I manage to still find solace As my thoughts fly to All who loved her That I may look at them.
And perhaps Even in just a fleeting glance See her face And speak the words I never Got to say.
