trapped inside a cage of my own making
look at me my hands are shaking
so young so fast so full of fire
caught in an accident of my desire
like a gorilla in a cage
I may smile but inside I rage
moments spent inside these walls
who cares if I hear when the tree falls
used to be smart used to have the balls
to make my way to make my laws
trapped like a gorilla in a net
life is what I had what I made of it
sunshine comes through the panes
love comes and goes though my heart wanes
trapped inside a cage of my own making
look into my eyes love I ain't faking
today tomorrow next week never
used to think that I was clever
clever than the gorilla in that cage
brothers now in our rage
hope comes and goes
maybe he knows
how to handle these moments
of rage love and torment
if he does he ain't telling me
he waits for the key that will set him free
trapped inside he smiles his rage
at the man who stands outside
but in his own cage
