ABOUT
THE AUTHOR
Who me? Born in 1962. Wrote prolifically as a teenager, heavily influenced by books & the music of the time. Stopped writing for 20 years more or less. But started again... Some of the work here dates from the "early period" - 1979-1982. The rest is since 2000. I`ve no idea whether I`m a better writer now or then. Maybe I was never any good! I`ve always wondered. Feedback most welcome...
I've not visited this site at all since January 2006 as I shortly after discovered the unfettred joys of blogging. I'm still writing and actually had a very good summer of writing. I'm posting a recent poem here now but all my recent work is available on my blog - take a look - http://peter-rivendell-poems.blogspot.com/
[December 2006]

Nightwalk Peter Rivendell
A thousand feet have trod where I walk now
This thought is comforting to me somehow
Street is lined with trees and cars
No light comes from bars and cinemas
Streetlights dim but there`s a glow
As I pass buildings row on row
The faintest scattering of rain
I hear the distant sound of trains
No one passes in my view
The moonlit sky is darkest blue
Unfelt wind clouds scudding by
Miles from home and not sure why
Shuttered underpass blankly gapes
Moon shrouded out by ghostly drapes
Across the plaza where some statues stand
Eyes seem to move but not their hands
Iron railings around a gallery
Hotel lights spill dimly from a grand foyer
Buzzing neon stains the pavement blue
Electricity drifts a strange perfume
Drawing strength from all this energy
And filling up just like a battery
Footsteps ring on paving stones
Different surfaces and tones
Through the ancient and the new
These quiet streets eternally renew
How many thousand years will pass
Before these streets are fused to glass?
A wartime atmosphere of sorts
What life exists behind these doors?
Dawn approaches creeping slow
First signs of life begin to show
Sleeping giant starts to wake
And the spell begins to break
Time to turn and head for home
Carressed enough by being alone
As exhaustion weights my limbs
Comes a clearer view of things
