Fistful Of Sand

Held it my hand,
Like a fistful of sand.
Watched the grains slip away,
Like all the words I didn’t hear you say.
No tears fall,
Because I gave it my all.
Not a promise was broken,
And no goodbyes were spoken.
Closed my eyes,
Blinding out the lies.
Adorned in passionate kisses sweet,
And there I laid my heart at your feet.
Today comes anew,
No shame in loving you.
Was not something meant to last,
Placed upon a dusty shelf of my past.
I smile at the memory,
But there is where I’ll let it be.
Tomorrow I play another hand,
And grasp another fistful of sand.
