The Birman Of Arakan Gary Thompson
It all started a very long time ago
When the Birman came to be
There's a legend about these sacred cats
And it's there for you and me
T'was before the time of Buddha
In a temple underground
One hundred Birmans led the way
They hardly made a sound
The legend tells of a golden goddess
With eyes of sapphire-blue
A temple priest who adored the idol
Killed in a raid upon the mosque
And Sinh, his faithful white temple cat
Who was always by his side
They walked in the temple and preyed together
There was a bond, that could not be denied
At the moment of his masters death
Sinh was right there, we are told
He placed his feet on the fallen priest
And faced the goddess made of gold
The transformation from the golden goddess
Was a sight for all to see
The colour changes to this beautiful cat
Reflects a symbol of purity
As I sit here with my treasured "Prince"
Thinking how it all began
I'm glad that I chose this beautiful boy
From a cattery named Arakan
I feel breathless and bathed in a radiance
When I look into his sapphire-blue eyes
I will cherish my Birman for always
Until my very own demise
