Hunger Moon Abbie Angel
Hunger Moon
Hunger is a constant gnawing deep in your belly,
It finds you in the muggy wetness of an August night
It creeps into your bones like winter death.
Hunger is fighting with a pack of starving dogs over a bone
It leads you to back alleys and dumpsters for nourishment
It is drinking vinegar to take the pain of emptiness away.
Hunger finds the young and old, it holds no prejudices
It is the crying of a baby that no one cares to hear
It is the plea of the old man that no one hears to care.
Hunger is an empty moon, bone-white death looking down
It is the skeletons in the shadows that no longer cry
It is a homeless man
The dying addict
It is a derelict lying in a cardboard coffin.
Hunger is desperation and despair, and waits for death
It is the beggar on the street that nobody sees
It is a street walker feeding her habit
It is a runaway child of an unhappy home.
I can see the hunger
In the dirty mirror that hangs in the broken church.

"how touching... thanks for your review on my SAY "I LOVE YOU!"" -- Dri.
"Dear Abbie: Get out of the streets if you want to see the Light. Survival is your's for the taking; happiness you will have to find. Use your strength and survival skills to find a better place. In reply to your poems: For hunger there's also nourishment; for every addict, choice for recovery; for all Darkness, there's Light. If you continue to stay where you are, then you stop being a victim and become a contributor. From your portrayal of the streets, I see an infinite number of options that you'd be better off at. Shelter, church, anywhere. Don't glorify life on the streets, sweetie. Don't let that be your light. Get off the drugs and channel your creativity into writing stories. You'd do really good at like a fantasy/mystical book. Good luck." -- Cindy.
