The Burden Of Sight
Rhiannon Price

I hear them all around me taunting me ready to pounce at any time
A noise, my gun lifts higher, the sweat cold, yet refreshing running down my face

Turning here turning there. I know they're there. I sense them
I’m vulnerable; weak my legs feel that they could cave in at any moment
I turn to find a long tube pointing at my head my eyes glazed with fear

Even if I wanted to attempt to run, I don’t think I could have, my legs would not move I’m paralysed with fear
I lift my eyes to his, his filled with hatred, mine with despair.

A click, my last vision; of abhorrence and destruction.
Abhorrence and destruction at every turn.
I to the ground, dead bodies covering me, smothering me

I watched the dark, scarlet blood trickle from me like water from a tap.
Closing my eyes I knew they would never open again,
Hatred and desolation no longer in my sights, just my thoughts but only for a few moments more.

"this poem is very good! Your style is wonderful...I like have you use each word without waste...it is the key to good poetry!" -- e. rocco caldwell.
"Very interesting... The darkness and imagery is overwhelming. Keep it up." -- ryan severud.
"Probably the best title out of all 3 poems because unlike the commonly held opinion of sight being a gift you've perceived it as a burden, its very intriguing." -- Camilla.J.Way.
