First Month Hesetation
Hayley Burdett

You take my
Hand in yours,
Telling the world
That you are more
Than proud to be with me.
I love your
Unashamed confidence.
Yet, the thrill
Of our love
Is so new.
We're just kids,
Trying to survive
In a cinderblock institution.
I wonder how long
We'll be together,
Especially once our relationship
Passes its infancy, learns
To walk.
We're taking
Baby steps
In this first stage.
I know we'll
Make it past five.
My lips curl into
A knowing smile
As our eyes meet.
You can read minds,
I'm sending you a
"We'll be okay,"
Telepathically.
