The Sibil Joe Newton
Ancient woman of timelessness
You spoke from depths and heights
Know within your very self.
All that was said is
Held in your prescient frame
Till men,wearied and fearful,
Wrenched your power from you
And found
A nothingness
For you had escaped their understanding,
Alighting only now and then,
As human centuries unfolded,
In other minds and forms
Alchemical and magical.
In these encircling years
You enter now in cells and blood,
Fleshing new womanhood
With oldest recognition.
Sybil: you have come home.
