Journey Into Music
Jeremy Ray Dunlap

Music pulls the beauty out of your heart
And allows you to feel it
You ride out the notes in waves
You are inspired by its dives, soars, and crashes
Like one giant sea of emotion

All the instruments are there
Playing, floating in a space in you head
That isn't to the left or right
But in the middle

The horns cast foam on you ears
The cymbals make popping sounds
The trumpets are the light
The strings are the sky

You lie back
Floating on this ride
There isn't a definite destination
Except inside

Journey into this ocean and sky
As the clouds dance to the tones of your eyes
Conduct a score from memory
Or create a new dream

You fly into a world you have never been to
Riding upon a wind built of clefs
You feel as whole as the note you hold
Ridding that bar

How high it may rise is up to you
Watch the notes like tiny ripples on the Chesapeake Bay
Glide through those Virginia forests
The pines, the deciduous trees

Go out upon the water
Go run fast to the shore
Lie down in the water
Let it carry you to that ocean

Inhale the salt feel the notes on your drums
Breath, beat your heart with them
Reach for something you know cannot be obtained
Though that is the the pleasure

Listen to all the music that has come before you
As it comes again sounding new...

Feel the colonial town beneath your feet
As the choir glides you down its streets
The buildings and the smell of wood burning
In the air

Take everything in
Be among, under and over that water
You can't drown
Breath the music

Charge your heart
Charge it with what is owed
Don't let the composers down
Don't let their compositions be in vain
Falling on deaf hearts

Music is not heard it is felt
It is a challenge of understanding
It is freedom

No one can take its pleasure away
Nothing can hold you back
