New Iraq
E Rocco Caldwell

First there's just a blink
A white dot in black ink
Slush on whitewall tires
The delivery and baby tears

Soon there will be daybreak
The flooding of reds and yellows
Like a pocket of shiny dimes
A roll of neon lights

Then true sunlight
Bright
Marvelous
New
Aflame and unimpeded
Exploring
Growing
Knowing
What liberty truly is
