The Game Of Life David Daniels
We keep falling
But we never land
We keep explaining ourselves
But no one understands
We cry
It seems our tears never end
We search for companionship
But we never find a true friend
We bleed from fresh wounds
That never seem to heal
We seek reality
But find that life is often unreal
We seek a conclusion
To the pain in our hearts
We can't seem to finish
The things that we start
We look for a sign
We seek something that is better
We have the pieces to the puzzle
But we can't put them together
We try to fly
But our wings are broken
We try to say the right words
But somehow they're never spoken
We try to give love
But it turns into hate
Will we burn in Hell
If we are denied at Heavens gate
We pray
But they're unheard
We read the Bible
But we ignore the words
Whatever we find
Winds up lost in a haze
We always search for a way out
Because our lives are a maze
The love inside us
Sometimes causes pain in our souls
Our love turns into sorrow
And we lose our self control
We desperately need an escape
From this prison that is life
The cuts on our skin are caused
By the jagged edge of societies knife
Now we all need a bandage
Because now we bleed
If we could just have unconditional love
Then that would be all we'd need
But the love we receive
Is often forgotten
The air has a foul stench that emanates
From our blackened souls that are rotten
Love is often given
Along with neglect and abuse
Then we have wasted love
That is of no use
Sometimes our love becomes lost
It slowly disappears
The light of our love slowly fades
Into the darkness of our fears
But love is a part of life
And it's something we all need
But if you surround yourself with to much love
It overshadows you like a weed
Do you sometimes feel
That the Devil is by your side
And you have nowhere to run
And no place to hide
If you had a place to hide
Would you share it with a friend
Or would you remain there by yourself
Hoping to find an answer in the end
The answer is,we just want to be held
We want to be sheltered from the cold
But the arms that hold us
Are weak and old
Every time we turn around
We witness a sign that says 'No Hope'
Millions of people in mental institutions
Because they're unable to cope
Millions of people are just plain crazy
Millions of others are just criminally insane
Unable to listen to reason
Because they're defective in the brain
So many would kill their own mother
Just to feel the high of a drug
Murderers who exstinguish life
As if humans were bugs
Taxes and inflation
No way to survive
Is death a relief
Because it hurts so much to be alive
Property taxes rising
Forced to sell your home
The homeless sleep in the streets at night
By day they wander and roam
What kind of world do we live in
Why do we allow the homeless to live on the streets
And why do we let millions of children die
Because they have no food to eat
War and destruction
Terrorism is everywhere you turn
Can you still see the towers
And do you remember how they burned
Can you remember where you were
When the towers fell
Did you think the terrorists were invading us
And New York City had gone to Hell
Blood shed in the desert
Soldiers dying in the name of peace
How long will the soldiers continue to fight
To preserve freedom in the Middle East
Corrupt politicians
World leaders who do as they please
Insects that procreate in our backyards
And then spread germs and disease
Sexually transmitted diseases
People dying from sex acts that are unprotected
One trip to the doctor
And suddenly the illness is detected
You sit down at the dinner table
Ready to enjoy your favorite meal
But now with the threat of Mad Cow
After dinner is disease something you'll feel
Presidents involved in sex scandals
Committing infidelities with young ladies
People on TV communicating with the dead
While others who do the same are called crazy
Young children taken
As they lay in their beds
By evil pedophiles
Who are sick in the head
Young husbands murdering
The wives they supposedly love
And then seeking forgiveness
From the Lord above
Fathers murdering their children
As they lay in their mothers womb
Little did baby Connor Peterson know
That his mothers uterus was a tomb
We try and remain calm
But deep down we're a mess
Confiding in sexually abusive priests
Of the sins we confess
We are bewildered
We are confused
We are horrified
By the things in the news
But still we must carry on
No matter how difficult life gets
Still we must pay our taxes
As we sink deeper into debt
We try to escape the problems of the world
Through prayer and deep meditation
But yet we just can't help
Feeling depressed and taking medication
No one said life was easy
But yet no one said it would be hard
No one warned us of life's hypocrisies
And how we would all play a part
Life is a struggle
But still we must hold our heads up high
And lead the best lives we can
Until the day we die
Life just isn't fair
But yet we try to remain sane
We try and remain winners
Because life is merely a game
Love your family
Love your sister,love your brother
Realize that you have one life and when it's over
Hopefully in Heaven you'll have another
Remember to love your children and respect your parents
Love your husband,love your wife
And try to always play fair
In this crazy game we call life

"wow, what a poem. You're right: one of your best. I just could not stop reading from "head to toe". But I must tell you: the world is not that bad, there are still hopes and prayers are answered. And yes, I do remember where I was then the towers fell and life is a crazy game, but it is also a wonderful journey. Thanks for this great write. "I liked the message this piece portrayed. It was a bit long for me, and in my opinion (opinion being the key word) some of the wording could have been changed slightly without changing the meaning in order to give it a more even flow. " -- mattie.
"Dear Mattie, just out of curiosity what are some of the words you would change? The reason I ask is because I think you're a great poet and I respect your opinion. Thanks for the reveiw." -- David .
