But One Thorn
M Q Walters

Remembering the promise,
I cradle my dream and cry myself to sleep.
And did you confess,
It was a promise you never intended to keep?
It was just another lie,
Sweet words were a part of your masquerade.
I'll put to sleep tears I cry,
And all of you and all of this pain will fade.
I’ll write it all down,
Then burn the empty pages one by one.
But one thorn in my crown,
How many in yours when all’s said and done?
