Concorde
The sixties saw the beginning of an Anglo – French beauty,
Which with over two years of testing made its safety and security just as prominent as her unique style,
Her maiden voyage and inaugural flight, France 76,
Showed the world a new concept,
A concept of pure genius,
Made even more poignant by two planes seemingly kissing nose to nose like lovers in New York,
As popularity grew so did her style,
It's champagne and wealthy people flights
Caused her to become more of a public symbol day by day,
Owning the sky like she knew she could,
Spreading wings looking so elegant
And forming a portrait captured in every British and French heart.
She was the only supersonic passenger plane in the world,
And she was also the most beautiful
And so our love for a plane suddenly became true,
Turning a design and personifying it into a living being,
Which we loved and cherished as our daughter or wife.
The Arab oil embargo caused steep rises in fuel prices,
Causing the guzzling Concorde to become thirsty,
Not only did its large consumption dry out its insides,
But funding and investors money,
When added to the catalyst of the July 2000 crash,
It left 113 people to be possibly buried with our national treasure,
Grounded,
Ending our three decade love affair,
But we won't stop loving,
Even to her final swan's cry,
May the Anglo - French dream once again rule the sky.
