Passions Uche Peter Umez
the sun lets loose
its raw heat
sweat glazes
farmer’s muscled back
his hands are sore
limbs aching
yet his hoe shapes mounds
from stubborn sand
for crops…
earth soon softens
under the caress
of the first rains
tendrils sprout
yams shoot
tuberous
heavy with health
for both old and young…
the moon delicately dabs
a glow-ointment
on the night
hazy arcs silhouettes
voices
a lighted hearth
where compliant wife warms up
besides hot-blooded farmer.
