Withering Away
Katherine Smith

I know your story I’ve seen it happen it just kills me to see such a beautiful thing go to waste. I couldn’t save you God knows I tried, you fought so hard to be alone, I took a step back and watched you die. Standing over your casket today, apprehension hit me hard, I could have done more, I shouldn’t have left you. So now I cry every night at nine, my world is spinning, I’m falling behind. Neglect the silent ones there’s nothing wrong, you did what I did to her, you ignored my silent cries. Thanks for nothing, now she rots in a hole 6 feet beneath the ground, my fate is coming, as they say, “what goes around comes around.”
