“Old Man and the County Bridge”

There was an old man who sat 
everyday near the county bridge 
poised on the rivers edge
his fishing pole propped as
he dosed mostly and 
occasionally swatted at flies
at the end of the day 
he got ready to leave
he would gather his things
and roll down his sleeves
then walk back down the road again
in the hot dusty sun, shuffling
slowly just getting by
no one ever noticed him
every single day of his life
when he walked down that road
to the fishing hole where he sat every day

Then one day he never show up, he died
it seems no one missed him
cept maybe the fish who gathered 
every day since then in the deep end waiting
for the worms that he brought when he came
soon with the heat as the summer wore on
the fishing hole dried up
and the bones of the fish lay gathered in a pile
just waiting to be caught but instead 
they waited too long for their own good
and they died too.

Solace from the sea whispering
Birth, Death, Renewal
comforting,gentle,folding
caressing this fragile soul

Spirits dwell in the recess of crags
buried deep within 
voices calling, mired, mixed
with endless pleading for salvation

alone now as before
dark as it was then
floating from memory

still so still, serene as an open hand
it touches this cheek

silence ringing in the ears
images coming and going 
trying to focus on one

feeling warm lights
embrace as if a feather
lifted and weightless carried
on a trip of memories
lived over and over again
never forgetting one moment
you are now home.
