Toward Insight Jeffrey Lee Williams
We swam around the deep blue sea Singing the gospel solemnly We approached the port for which we land Carrying heartache hand in hand
We’ve begged the senate to spare a dime They said to ask for help is a crime We’re pushed to the ocean to swim away Hoping for compassionate land to stay
Found a whale as we swam the sea, We climbed aboard, quick as can be. But never the less our claim we press. This whale will be our new address. Our independence we now declare And glorious freedom we all will share.
The problem that arises now Is one that we cannot allow People in boats, Refugees on whatever floats, They’ll steal our whale that we love so dear They have no right! That much is clear.
We built a fence, we built a wall They’re not the same as us at all Not the right color, same as me, A very different identity. We have to protect our way of life From these aliens and their strife
Suddenly the whale took a dive. Not many of us left alive. Them and us, can’t tell us apart, We sound the same now, for a start. Once we fought for our language like a drug But all we can say now is “glug, glug, glug.”
