AUTHOR'S OTHER TITLES (5) Middle Age (Poetry) A short "spoof" about accepting middle age "gracefully"! IF ONLY!! [108 words] [Humor] The Getting Of Wisdom (Poetry) A poem about how the quest for knowledge and status can lead to loneliness and isolation. [295 words] The Heart Of The Aussie Digger (Poetry) What I've always felt about Aussie Diggers. Have we really considered how they felt when they came back without their friends? Are they heroes because we made them so, against their will? [284 words] [History] The Power Of The Pen (Poetry) No rhyme, no meter. Just random thoughts. If we're all honest, wouldn't we prefer to deal with confrontations with the pen rather than face to face? I know I would! A matter of personal choice of cou... [150 words] To Quote (Poetry) A simple case of, not so much writer's block, but the old ego getting in the way of writing for enjoyment. That old adage: "I want to write something REALLY clever before I die". Oh well. [148 words] [Humor]
Such A Long Day Chris E Ivins
It wasn't always easy, when it was just you and me I tried to be Mum and Dad, which I couldn't really be Those times with only two of us I find I miss them now You're growing up so fast that I feel left behind somehow
While I will always cherish the memory of “my little baby” I’ll embrace the “you” before me now, who’s becoming quite the lady! The struggles that you have overcome within these past two years Have shaped the person you will be, and the friendships you’ll hold dear
I feel within a sense of joy and overwhelming pride At all you are achieving with or without me by your side I know I'm not around you quite as much as I used to be You need to do so many things so often without me
You brightly shine like a beacon in a world that's often dark You're an angel here upon the earth who’ll one day make her mark So always keep your warmth alive, don’t ever let it wane Spread your love and joy around to those who are in pain
And though it makes me sad sometimes to know that I now must Loose my arms from around you and in Jesus place my trust I’m sure He’ll keep you safe from harm in all that you will do And He won’t let you ever forget, that I am here for you
but still..
I remember a tiny little girl at the end of her first school day With tears upon her cherub face she ran to me to say
"It was so very hot Mummy, and it's been Such a Long Day"
