The Flavor Of Choice
Majen Stewart

The little boy sits at the dinner table
Wondering what to eat.
He puts down his mother goose fable
And takes a better seat.

He looks steadily about
The corn, peas, carrot, meat, and rye
But as his hunger begins to doubt
Two pastries catch his eye.

They are each a different flavor
But relatively the same.
He does not know which to savor
He doesn’t like this game.

The pumpkin and the blueberry
Both sweet and delicious,
But as the boy reached for the berry
The pumpkin became vicious.

“If you choose the blueberry,” the pumpkin said
“I will never let you eat me again!”
The blueberry looked as if his mind she read
And stated as a friend:

“It would be great if you could eat me
But the problems I would bring
Are more than what you want to see
And I don’t want you suffering.”

The boy stared at the orange pie
Knowing she meant well
And looked back to old tie
Not knowing what to tell.

The pumpkin had been the one
To which his eye was keen
Even though he had had fun
In the other scene.
