                 I

As I wake up I see them all
standing around me in their room of ivory
                      waiting for me
yes waiting for me to be revealed
from beneath my safe haven
Now I am vulnerable to everything
I squint as the light shines into my eyes

                 II

suddenly it is hazy and I feel like
like I am falling , falling down into the abyss
the abyss of darkness and sin
this abyss we know as the world
Ah but there is still hope for me

                 III

My short life flashes before me
but what is this thing we call life
is it just a place where we are many
we know much, we observe other animals
       but are others watching us
                       could this be?
Why yes, surely the possibility exists
who could this superior race be
could God just be an idea incorporated into
no it couldn't ; or could it
be an idea placed into our puny minds
just to turn us away from these observers
these creatures closely watching us
           observing us ever so closely
yet still we contemplate over all of this
what a strange place we live in

                    IV

Time: what is this?
it is so strange how we don't know
the answer to this inquiry of mine
could it be just a random repetition of thoughts
                      or thought patterns?
this could be but it must be deeper than this
                       it just has to be
maybe it is an abstract feeling we just created
created in a feeble attempt to find reasons
                       reasons for many things
humans are just fools who try to find something
or someone to look up to
when really we are just here alone
unless this God character is fact and not fiction
it could be, yes it surely could be true

                      V

I sit alone in this so called room
I call it a room yet I don't know this
I feel entrapped in a place in
in which I do not belong
I feel like, like I am not supposed to be here
as in this world of evil and darkness
it certainly cannot be a place where,
where good people are everywhere
for evil lurks everywhere in this place
from the dark alleys of the inner city
to, yes, sometimes even the comfort
of yes, even in your own home
This room I am in with its walls of ebony
and ceiling and floor of ivory
seemingly a comparison between good and evil
more black than white, yes twice as much
I take it as a comparison of the world
yes, the world in which I am alone
the world in which there is more evil than good
it seems that in this world temptation prevails
I ponder over many things while in this "room"
this room which is the world

                    VI

Then I saw a strange white light
this light slowly creeping through the black,
                             black darkness
I knew there was hope I just knew it
Here where I am there is no concept of time
I have no idea how long it's been
since I have been in this place
this place of evil, this place of sin,
this place of seemingly eternal darkness
w that I see the light
           this blinding white light
I know that I am going to be fine
this light piercing the darkness and sin
out of my life and the lives of others
                      is my salvation
I do not know where this light came from
                   I only know that
I finally feel at home in this strange,
unusual world in which we live
this place in which I once was lost
                 yes lost and alone
               Oh, how alone I was
but now I am at home
I can now see the good in the world
rather than just evil that masked the good
what a wonderful and fascinating place
what a world we live in
