No She Didn't Jina Kaye
Oh, no she didn’t:
Just walk up in here, swishing her hips,
Sashaying like she’s strutting the catwalk,
With her head lifted high, tilted to the side
Thinking about what the future holds.
Oh, no she didn’t:
Just roll her eyes at me
Like I am just a passing thought;
She must think she’s better than me
Must have forgot about those kinky curls on top of her head.
Oh, no she didn’t:
Get a weave in her hair so she could look like me,
Or get contacts to be a bit more exotic than me
Oh, no she didn’t:
Just try to mimic me—
I went to Harvard, she went to Yale,
My M.A. is from Princeton
But she has an MFA from Columbia.
What, just because they offer scholarships
she thinks she’s smarter than me?
Oh, no she didn’t:
Just talk to my man
And smiled in his face,
Flashing her bright, white teeth
And sparkling brown eyes,
Like she holds the secret to the world.
Oh, no she didn’t just say hi to me,
Like we represent unity
or something.
Oh, yes, she did.
