Walking Across The Triborough Bridge Jina Kaye
Sunny skies
Warm breeze
Not a cloud amongst the heavens of abundant blue.
Communing with the One;
Talking to Him about my trials and tribulations,
Giving Him praise for another day.
Cars are going fast
Metal stairs are in my way
But, I continue to share with Him,
As I go along my way.
I look to my left and see soccer fields going to waste,
A race track, with no one running…
This land so full possibility left stagnant and abandoned.
Moving along, I approach more stairs.
There are a few people jogging by,
but I pay them no mind.
I just move out the way so they can see the stairs.
Going further east, all I see is the river flowing,
headed north,
And birds chasing each other,
enjoying the season.
Cars are still buzzing by,
but I pay them no mind.
Some people honk and I wave as they drive by.
Now I am overlooking Astoria.
I see houses and community centers and parks,
though it reminds me of Spanish Harlem,
There is no loud music.
I am still conversing with God,
although I have no more to say.
I just feel relaxed.
I enjoy the beauty that is nature around me.
So what if three M60s passed by quickly…
Or I see a few trucks roll by slowly?
It is all good because it somehow works.
My feet ache just a little…
and I haven’t seen anyone for ten minutes.
I am about to hit the last set of stairs.
Now I have to deal with reality.
I’d much prefer walking back across the Triborough Bridge.
