Swish Wilson

The point guard dribbles,
fast to the sight,
slow to the mind,
weaving in and out of opponents.

As she sprints to the foul line,
where she glides to the ball
she takes one last step. . .

Her skin welts up with tiny little dots,
her legs and arms are sucked back in,
her color becomes a faded orangish.

Spinning, she hits the glass,
the rim,
the net. “swish”

The crowd fills the air,
she bounces off the court
now in the hands of everybody’s
but her own.
