Life As I Know It

My life is so different,
From when you saw me last.
Nearly everything that could possibly change, has.
I feel like a new woman, I’ve grown up so much
Even the superficial stuff, like my hair and make-up.
It all looks different now, I’m different, I feel different
I am a butterfly who has emerged from her cocoon, after many years of developing.
I’m finally free and on my own to do as I please,
I answer to no one but myself,
I do what I want, whenever I want.
I have a new-found independence.
Friends have blended into family, my source of fun and support.
During times of trouble, they’ve reached out and shown how much they love me, just the way I am.
God has even blessed me with a few new angels in my life, dropped them inside just when the time was right
I’m a solo bird these days, cruising the sky alone, perhaps with a visitor when I choose.
Being on your own changes you, when you have no one to depend on but yourself,
It’s an experience everyone should have.
I feel like I can accomplish anything I want in this life,
I balance it all with no help at all.
A job, education, household, social life, and family,
Who knew taking it all on could be so rewarding?
My vision for my life is finally becoming reality.
It was scary at first, being alone, but I had faith
That brighter days were ahead, and it was going to be okay.
And my faith paid off tenfold, and God kept an eye on me like I hoped.
I am doing fine now, and I’ve grown fond of being alone.
