The Magic Mirror
Kurt Kitasaki

The magic mirror hung on the concrete wall of the crowded locker room. The wishful coach looked into it with his wide-eyed players. What would it reveal? Would it say they would win the championship again?
They all went down to their knees and bowed like Islamic pilgrims. The magic mirror began to crystallize, the fog from the athletes breaths slowly diminished off the glass of the sacred relic.
The great revelation it seemed would arrive. The players held hands. The coach with nervous anticipation wiped the chewing tobacco running from his lips.
The magic mirror had never failed them. Never lied. They knew the entire season would depend on it’s revelation.
Then suddenly a loud ring! Startling the once trace like state of the players. It was the coach’s cell-phone. They had an expression of anger. Who would dare interrupt this solemn occasion?
What could it be!?! The coach hung up, jumped on top of a bench to make an announcement. The negotiations with the owners had broken down. They were officially on strike.
They took the old mirror off the wall, threw it into trashcan, and drove home in their Ferraris to spend the rest of the summer in their oceanfront mansions.
