My Inspiration Amy Mondure Lioncourt
One day when I was in Venice on a bussiness trip,
I found myself
wondering the streets.
It was late at night anf the cool air had given flight
to a tangle of thoughts.
I had just lost my company about 3 million dollars
and I knew I was going to be fired.
And as anyone would do in this state
I was thinking about my boss
and having to tell him what happened.
I sat down on a small wooden bench by a stone
walled shop.
Then suddenly, like nothing I had ever heard,
a song came floating out into the mist.
I rose to see who this wonderful musician was.
I followed the sound, picturing some old man
sitting on the dirt, stone path.
I came to a stop and followed the sound into
an alley.
I knew that I was one turn away from
wittnessing a magnificent creature.
And then my heart broke.
A little girl, no more than eight,
stood in white rags.
Torn to her knees it was and covered in mud.
Her hair a rigid silk cut into unleveled stalks.
And her eyes softly closed.
In her hands she held the little cherry stained
violin.
And on the floor a little
peasant boy sat watching her in awe.
His potato sack pants
smeared with grass and tar.
In his hand
a wilted flower.
I went back to my hotel and told my boss what
happened.
As I predicted I was fired.
I sat down and fiddled with my tie.
On the desk was a small crystal vase.
And in it a full bloom flower.
Every tragedy I had
excepted then was still,
and I smiled.
