The couch is firmly in it’s place. The table next to the couch, curiously enough, shares the exact same feature. Likewise, and no less bizarre, all of the other tables in the room are following suit. Moreover, the items on the tables are accomplishing the very same feat. In fact, every inanimate object in this room, it seems, is at the cutting edge of performance in regards to this act, and I am utterly astounded. To be sure, I would normally disregard this completely amazing achievement if it were not for one single fact.
To appreciate this fact, then please, you must, I insist, you must follow me back to the past! For, five minutes ago, indeed, five long minutes ago, I ignored the phenomenon altogether. It was not, as it is now, the mysterious event that has unbelievably unfolded before my eyes. I remember it like it was yesterday; I was there, the couch was there, the tables were there, along with the various things lying around, and we were all peacefully resting in our respective positions in a very natural way. We were all at peace then; and it was the peacefulness of it that had disturbed me, for, in the peacefulness of the moment I had become painfully aware of how thoroughly boring my circumstances really were. Essentially, the boredom of the effortlessness that we all faced (me, this couch, these tables, the stuff that is lying everywhere), bored me into a panic. That’s when I got up in a moment of rash behavior, dashed across the room in a flurry of excitement and proceeded to do the only thing I could think of that would effectively destroy the peace, and pointedly flipped on the anti-gravity switch!
Of course, you know what happens next, that’s not the mystery! The mystery is why it happened. Which brings me back to the fact. The fact that has left me utterly bewildered in reference to the prior question. Which is: Why is everything still fixed to the floor, in it’s original stillness, as if nothing had happened; as if the anti-gravity machine wasn’t working; as if I was just some lunatic, who was, in reality, flipping on a light switch? The fact that I speak of is this. I am currently not in the same state of peaceful simplicity; I am not participating in the motionlessness of the inanimacy below me. For, despite the lack of levitation on the part my fellow surrounding objects, I find myself in accordance with a rather different kind of design, whose outcome I had initially sought to induce.
So here I am, floating, drifting just above the couch, the tables, and the rest, while they bask in boredom below me. There they remain in their lives of servitude, while I experience a transcendental environment, wherein, I can defy the established laws of reality. It stands as proof that something did happen, that the anti-gravity machine is working, and that I am not a lunatic. More importantly, it proves that the switch that I speak of is not merely a light switch upon the wall, but a real switch that literally removes the effects of gravity. Yet, for some reason, the mystery still remains, after all, those things down there still can’t feel it.
